A Major Step with Great Success

In the continuing saga of moving toward cutting our TV cable, I recently picked up a Mohu Leaf 50 amplified indoor HDTV antenna to test the reception in our suburban location. Installation was a snap: remove the cable TV HDMI cable from the TV and attach the included 16-foot coaxial cable to the TV’s “antenna” input. For the amplifier power, the Mohu 50 gives a USB TV plug-in option, which I used, or also includes the adapter to plug it in to any AC outlet close by. I placed the very thin 0.4″ antenna panel, which measures only 9″ x 11.5″ on an outside wall and ran through the channel scan procedure.

We received 32 local channels over the air as crisp and clear, or more so to my eye, than the cable reception thanks to Mohu’s 1080P quality reception capability! That included the “majors”, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, and PBS, as well as a number of others I had no idea even existed. The antenna claims to pull in signals from a range of up to 50 miles and my experience makes me believe that is true. The antenna is multi-directional, so no “pointing” is necessary.

An order was placed today for a second Mohu 50 to use with our other TV. Now, it’s time to make a move on the streaming unit, probably a Roku 3, along with a Sling TV subscription which will provide ESPN, ESPN2, History Channel, Travel Channel, TNT, CNN, TBS, HGTV and many more for just $20 per month.

For what it’s worth, a number of the Mohu reviews stated that the Mohu Leaf 30, with a 30-mile range, works almost as well as the Mohu 50 for $30 less. In my case, the CBS affiliate is nearly 40 miles from my home, so I did not want to chance poor reception with that unit. I figure it is a one-time charge, so why not go for the best possible.

Again…stay tuned.

Paul, I was not aware that there are fifty-mile indoor HD antenna options. That should work in both of our homes. Thanks for the lead and the confirmation that this is a good product. Tom
