At long last, after delays due to a stepson’s move into a newly purchased home, and another stepson’s wedding, I finally connected our “main” living room TV to the Mohu HD antenna. Thankfully, 32 stations were picked up in beautiful HD clarity.
Then it came time to install the Roku 3 Streaming Device: a piece of cake! The most difficult part of the process was remembering our router’s password! The installation was easy as could be, but browsing through the hundreds of offerings proved to be a daunting task, to say the least. For some reason, via the Roku, it will say a certain “channel” is FREE. Well, I found that means it is free to stream that station via the Roku device, but in many cases, such as HBO Now or Netflix, you need a subscription with that particular company. Of course, many offer a 30-day Free Trial, but still after 30 days she ain’t free any longer! Nonetheless, there are scores of actual no-cost offerings available.
Thanks to the subscription to Sling TV, I was able to watch lots of college football on ESPN over the weekend without any problems at all. Ah, how sweet it was (well, other than the unbelievable and heartbreaking outcome of the Michigan vs. Michigan State football game)! On Sunday evening, as is her normal routine, we were able to find some interesting “nature” programs for my wife to enjoy, so we were both happy campers.
Now…I must gather my ammunition, facts ‘n’ figures, arguments and steel my resolve before contacting Comcast to cut that TV cable once and for all. You see, they’d like to raise the price on our Internet service if we cancel TV service. I fully see what they’re trying to do, but I’m determined to avoid that if at all possible. The bottom line, however, is that it really feels good to know we can cut the cable, save some cash and still have access to tons of entertainment options that WE choose. Isn’t that the way it should be?
