This beautiful monument is right on our border with Mexico. They offer hiking trails and self-guided vehicle tours through areas of the park. I decided to take a 21-mile vehicle tour through a beautiful portion of the park filled with a number of different of cacti, including the beautiful Organ Pipe.
On my way down from Why, I went very close to the border crossing and noticed the border wall in the distance.

My trip around the mostly gravel road took about 90 minutes. It was worth every bump in the road and the dust we gathered on the trip. Here’s a few of the impressive views we encountered:
This Origen Pipe is about 12 feet tall.
This attention-grabbing sign makes the border problems come to life.

I was very happy when I saw my first ocotillo beginning it’s Spring bloom.

Unfortunately, the Visitor Center was closed the day I visited. Still, it was a very inspiring trip through the monument to these extraordinary cacti.
What a great vacation you had! When are you heading toward MI?
