Cincinnati to Cheyenne, Wyoming…1,225 miles, give or take a few. Abby was definitely ready to get away from our van for a while whenever she could!

One of many “pit stops”.
Green, green grass and foliage
everywhere along our route!

We took it easy, though; the trip included a week layover in St. Louis, and usually just 4 or 5 hours on the road each day. Our overnight accommodations were nicely provided by Cracker Barrel restaurants—I no longer need a menu there!

We only encountered a couple thunderstorms or brief showers along the route. Although quite windy, those beautiful fluffy clouds were overhead most of the way.

I learned our major inland waterways are amazing; the Ohio, Missouri, Platte, and of course the mighty Mississippi were sights to behold. Huge barges as large as 295 feet by 50 feet are towed on some of these rivers.

We did some touring around Lincoln, Nebraska, the state capital. The capital building was beautiful, along with some spots around the University of Nebraska campus.

The town of Gothenburg, Nebraska, proudly featured an original Sod House (trees for lumber were scarce) as well as an old, but very well preserved Pony Express Station.

Cheyenne welcomed us with chilly temperatures and some wind; not surprising with an altitude of 6,000 feet! It soon warmed into the low 70s, though, not bad at all as we approached the Rocky Mountains.

With Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks relatively close-by, a visit to both may be planned soon.

  1. Jody Turkopp says:

Tetons are spectacular along with Yellowstone. Jackson Hole is a fun town.

    1. Thx Jody. Better see them while I’m close!
